MG has announced ambitious plans to make its new electric car MG 07 the best-selling four-door coupe sedan in the Chinese market, after recording more than 21,000 reservations during just the first 20 hours after pre-orders opened, signaling the strong interest the car has generated ahead of its official launch.

The company confirmed that its current priority is to increase production capacity to meet expected demand, in preparation for the official launch scheduled for August 2026, with vehicle deliveries to customers set to begin during the third quarter of the year.

Strong Demand from the First Hours
MG began accepting pre-orders on July 29, 2026, with prices ranging from 125,900 to 168,900 Chinese yuan (equivalent to approximately $18,600 to $24,500).
The company explained that the current reservation figures represent refundable reservations rather than final purchase orders or completed sales, but they reflect the initial level of consumer interest before actual deliveries begin.
During an executive conference held on July 31 to discuss production plans, vehicle development, and market strategy, Chen Kui, general manager of the MG brand, said that the company is currently focusing more on increasing production than on tracking reservation figures.
He added that the MG 07 achieved twice as many reservations during the first 50 minutes of pre-orders as the MG4 received during its first three hours on the market.
Direct Competition with Xiaomi and XPeng Cars
For his part, Zhang Liang, deputy general manager of SAIC Passenger Vehicle, explained that the company’s commercial goal is to make the MG 07 the best-selling electric coupe sedan in China, competing with prominent models such as the Xiaomi SU7 and XPeng Mona M03.
It is worth noting that the Xiaomi SU7 recorded deliveries of more than 80,000 vehicles during the first half of 2026, making competition in this segment among the fiercest in the Chinese market.
The MG brand also achieved domestic sales of 20,122 vehicles in June 2026, an increase of 14.5% compared with the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 187.1%, with a market share of 1.2% of China’s passenger car market.
Two Electric Versions and Advanced Technologies
The MG 07 is based on SAIC’s Nebula platform and is available with two electric powertrain options, both featuring rear-wheel drive.
The first version includes a 400-volt electric system with a 239-horsepower motor and a semi-solid-state battery with a capacity of 67 kWh, providing a driving range of between 610 and 650 kilometers according to the CLTC standard.
The higher-end version uses an 800-volt system with a 320-horsepower motor and a ternary lithium battery from CATL, offering a range of up to 845 kilometers with support for 5C fast charging.
Sporty Design and Practical Space
The car measures 4,886 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,478 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. It adopts a five-door Liftback design that combines a sporty character with practicality.
It also uses an integrated 18-in-1 electric drive unit that incorporates the electric motor, power inverter, transmission, and power distribution units into a single system, with the aim of improving efficiency, reducing weight, and enhancing reliability.
The car is also equipped with an AI-supported mCDC electromagnetic suspension system capable of scanning the road ahead over a distance of between 15 and 150 meters and adjusting the suspension before reaching bumps or changes in the road.
Smart Cabin and Premium Features
The cabin incorporates the latest technologies, including:
- A 15.6-inch central screen with 2.5K resolution.
- An 8.88-inch digital instrument panel.
- A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P processor.
- A front trunk with a capacity of 168 liters.
- A rear trunk with a capacity of 697 liters.
- A dual-zone interior refrigerator with a capacity of 30 liters.
SAIC engineers also worked to improve the interior space, particularly in the rear seats, to provide better legroom despite the car’s streamlined design.
Advanced Driving Systems
The higher-end versions of the MG 07 are available with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, along with the intelligent driving system developed by Momenta, which uses World Model technology to assist with driving.
According to the company, the system underwent 38 calibration processes to improve the vehicle’s performance, reduce braking response time in emergency situations, and enhance the car’s ability to avoid hazards. However, these figures are still based on company testing and have not been independently verified.
Will Reservations Turn into Sales?
Despite the strong start achieved by the MG 07, its true commercial success will depend on the company’s ability to increase production, adhere to delivery schedules, and on buyers’ decision to complete their purchases after the official launch.
With the strong momentum the car has generated since the first hours, the MG 07 appears set to become one of the most notable new electric cars in the Chinese market during 2026, amid intensifying competition between local and global companies for leadership of the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
